The Hero Twins
The Popol Vuh cycle follows the Hero Twins through contests with the powers of Xibalba, where wit, performance, death, and return reshape an earlier family defeat.
The twins' story is embedded within a K'iche' narrative that joins creation, ancestry, sacred history, and heroic episodes. The underworld trials should therefore not be detached from the larger text as if they were a stand-alone adventure franchise.
The current source is Lewis Spence's early twentieth-century English presentation, useful but dated. Loreveil should eventually add a modern scholarly K'iche'-informed translation as the preferred source.
