Snorri’s Edda gathers signs, battles, and cosmic destruction into Ragnarök, where gods and monsters meet their fates before a renewed earth rises from the sea.
Fenrir breaks free, Jörmungandr comes ashore, and long-foretold opponents confront one another. Thor defeats the serpent but survives only nine steps before its venom kills him.
Destruction is followed by return: the earth emerges green, surviving gods meet again, and human life continues. The account is a particular medieval synthesis, not the only Norse witness.
